Richter Anchor No. 6½ "Marne" - German Architectural Building Set (c.1900-1925)

For decades, Richter Anchor Stone Building Blocks were one of Europe's most sophisticated educational toys. Designed in Germany in the late 19th century, these sets allowed children to learn architecture and geometry by building real miniature buildings.

The No. 6½ "Marne" set belongs to the intermediate series of the Anchor collection and offers a wide variety of architectural blocks made from the characteristic artificial stone patented by F. Ad. Richter & Cie. This mixture of sand, chalk, and mineral pigments produced extremely precise and durable blocks that fit together perfectly.

With these types of sets, children could build churches, arcades, classical buildings, small towers, or palaces by following the plans included in the construction manuals. Each model was assembled in layers, just like a real architectural work.

For decades, Anker-Steinbaukasten were considered one of the most advanced educational toys of their time and are now seen as a direct precursor to modern construction systems.

These blocks were part of the childhood of many future architects; the founder of the Bauhaus, Walter Gropius, remembered playing with Anchor sets as a child.

This set retains its original wooden box and the original construction manual.
